Woodsetts Quarry Pond now offers season and day ticket fishing for a variety of species from specimen carp to winter pike.
The lake, which is an old sand quarry workings (excavated in the 1950s), has varying depths from three feet to twenty feet, and has two shallow bays at one end and a large, long open expanse of water, at the other.
Through 2011 and with access to records of previous captures, and with careful photography and weighing of all carp caught, it has been established that there are currently some 50 to 60 carp present in the lake. Three of the lake’s carp are now over 30lb in weight.
It’s not just carp fishing that Woodsetts offers either, the venue has had a long association with tench anglers and still offers some incredible sport in the summer months, with tench to 8lb being caught in 2011. Big bream are also present and carp anglers have caught bream in 2011 to just over 10lb in weight! The lake is also known for its eel fishing and specimen eels to over 8lb have been caught in past years. The silver fish stocks are also looking good and roach approaching the 1lb mark.
