Blackthorn Fishery is purpose built with the carp angler in mind. It is situated in a truly remote location on private ground without public access. You are guaranteed plenty of space when you fish at Blackthorn. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all, and enjoy premium fishing at its best.
The lake is home to some of the best quality British fish you can find. The sovereign strain were supplied by Viv Shears and Simon Scott of VS Fisheries. These carp have bags of character with a wide variety of scale patterns. The first batch of fish were introduced in February 2011 up to 24lb.
The 4 acre spring fed lake has been created out of previously water-logged farm land, it was purpose excavated by A.P. Hall, a specialist fishery contractor, who also constructed the well known Monument carp fishery. Depths range from 4’ to 10’ in places, with under-water plateaus, deep holes and visible features in the form of 4 islands, two in each of the “North” and “South” bays.
The lake has a total of 9 swims to fish from:
- 8 large swims (including 2 doubles)
- 1 Cabin swim with a large decked area to fish from which is exclusive to anglers staying in the log cabin.
To ensure that there is plenty of water for each angler, there is a maximum of 6 anglers on Blackthorn at any one time.
Pegs are spacious, bounded by logs, covered in wood-chip and have excellent drainage, to ensure a clean, comfortable, and dry stay in your bivy. Each is accessible via a gravelled path that encircles the entire lake, making transport of your gear from the car park stress-free.
For anglers who want that little extra comfort once in a while, why not treat yourself to the luxury Blackthorn cabin. The cabin is proving a popular choice for couples where the "other half" wouldn’t dream of spending the night in a bivy, just don’t forget your receiver!
