Pond noted for Carp, Bream and Perch fishing. Run by Taunton Angling Association.
Thurlbear Pond is about 1.5 acres in size. It has a shallow part of the lake nearest the car park, and the deeper area is surrounded by trees on the far side. Separating the shallow and deep parts is an island which is a useful feature to fish to for carp. During the summer in the shallow end Carp and Orfe as well as the two Identical Twins (Golden Orfe) can be seen swirling on the surface. The Carp also love to sit sunbathing in the margins and can be tempted with some floating bread or dog biscuits, but beware of the resident Ducks who will lovingly follow you round like you're their new best friend! In the summer pellet also works very well for most species. The smaller soft pellets are very good for hook baits for the skimmers.
In the winter time when the water gets colder the fish like to head to the deeper part of the lake furthest from the car park. Here worm and caster works very well. The perch especially love to take a worm bait.
