I sprayed in a few catapults of small pellets when I got there and plumbed up. I had about 3-4ft about 8 sections out. I used a bait stopper as well - something I haven't used before. If you haven't used them I highly recommend them, judging by this session.
They are just bits of plastic about 1cm long and I fed on two pieces of sweetcorn. I then hooked the bait stopper so the sweetcorn just sits off the hook and pops up on the bed.
First cast brought a 4-5lb mirror, biggest of the day. But there was a problem - I'd underestimated the water and only had a light elastic on. So the fish pulled the elastic to about 10ms while it lead me a dance around for about 15 mins.
After that it was more or less a fish a chuck all day without a let up. I chatted to anglers on the other ponds and they had the same. So this venue has a huge hungry stock.
I chatted with Mike after who told me the Canal has some great sport in the summer so I'll go back for a dabble then... Weston Pools |
